50% cashback, weekends, movies. Great words to put a smile on your face if you’re an AmBankcredit card user. Until 15 December 2012, AmBank will rebate 50% of your movie ticket price (for RM14 blockbuster movie tickets, you can get RM7 back!) on weekend movie tickets. We like that they have included the biggest 4 cinema chains in Malaysia (GSC, TGV, Cathay and MBO), but the big catch here (and we don’t like it) is that you have to spend at least RM500 on your AmBank credit card on that month to qualify for the cash back. Once that has been done, you get to enjoy 50% of the ticket price credited back to your AmBank Credit Card. As with most ‘cashback’ cards, this one comes with a monthly cashback limit according to your credit card type : classic and gold card get a max of RM30 per month (this cashback is credited the following month if you meet the RM500 criteria), and platinum, Signature, World, and Infinite cardmembers get a max of RM50 cashback per month. While that sounds low, it should cover most people who watch 1 movie per week (or less).Which AmBank card should you get? (or should you even get it?) Ambank don’t turn up in our top tables for Cashback Credit Cards or Rewards Points Credit Cards, so you might actually be losing out on cashback on that RM500 you spend (a 5% cashback rate gives you RM25), but given that the possible cashback is RM30 on movies after you spend that RM500, that doesn’t sound too bad especially for frequent moviegoers. If you want to make use of this promotion, why not consider the Ambank CARz credit card, which comes with 2% petrol cashback, making it even better. |
