Good news for those who have family members or friends residing in other countries, because Celcom is currently offering a promotion on their IDD calls. But first, check out our review to see if this promotion is a yay or a nay!
First up, the drawbacks : Only selected Celcom users who got an SMS invitation from Celcom are allowed to get this promotion (boo!). We tried to subscribe using a colleague's Celcom number to prove this theory, and true enough, there was no reply from Celcom. So only those who are actually invited can subscribe to this promotion (let us know if you manage to subscribe to this promotion, folks!).
On the other hand, both Celcom postpaid and prepaid customers can enjoy this promotion, with the exception of Celcom FRENZ. However, for new prepaid customers, a reload of RM30 is required to enable them to subscribe to this promotion. In a nutshell, Celcom is offering a daily and weekly IDD Pass to enable you to get a lower call rate to 15 selected countries. Basically, there are two types of IDD Pass that you can subscribe to, and these are the Daily and Weekly IDD Pass. For the Daily IDD Pass, the charge is RM5 and this pass allows you call to any of the selected countries at RM0.33 for every 15 minutes (so 1 minute = RM2.20). Meanwhile, the Weekly IDD Pass will cost you RM10, and this pass allows you to call at RM0.30 for every 33 minutes (so 1 minute = RM0.90).
Depending on where you're planning to call, this promotion could be cost friendly or expensive at the same time! For example, other IDD cards might give you a cheaper call rate to Singapore, but RM0.90 per minute charge via Celcom IDD Pass for a phone call to Germany could actually be at the cheaper end of the line. We are currently updating our International Direct Dialling from Malaysia Guide, so stay tuned while we update you on the cheapest way to call those who are not in Malaysia!
